The worlds highest paid actress is now suing the Walt Disney Company for releasing “Black Widow” on streaming the same day it hit theaters.

Scarlett Johansson has a new enemy to fight: the Walt Disney Co.
Actress Scarlett Johansson who is a stellar star and fan favorite in the latest Marvel movie “Black Widow,” filed a lawsuit last Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court against the Disney company. She claimed that her contract was breached when the company released the movie on their Disney+ streaming service the same exact day the movie made its theater debut.
Johansson said in her lawsuit that her agreement with Disney’s Marvel Entertainment was an exclusive theatrical release. The company also told her that her salary was going to be based in a large part on the box-office performance of the film.
In the lawsuit it claims that “Disney intentionally induced Marvel’s breach of agreement, without justification, in order to prevent Ms. Johansson from realizing the full benefit of her bargain with Marvel.” This means that they were never gonna tell Scarlett about them releasing it in their streaming site.
One of the Disney Spokesman said that “There is no merit whatsoever to the filing.” The spokesman also said that the suit is, “especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Johansson’s attorney John Berlinski came out with a statement saying, “It’s no secret that Disney is releasing films like Black Widow directly onto Disney+ to increase subscribers and thereby boost the company’s stock price- and its hiding behind Covid-19 as a pretext to do so.” Berlinski rapped it up by saying, “But ignoring the contracts of the artists responsible for the success of its films in furtherance of this short-sighted strategy violates their rights and we look forward to proving as much in court.”
As a week passed Ms. Johansson is still fighting for this lawsuit. The Walt Disney Company has yet made another statement on where this is gonna go. Will they give up and let Johansson win? or will they keep on fighting and still have “Black Widow” streaming on Disney+ without paying Scarlett?
